What's in it for you?

People join Lions to serve - and they stay because membership gives back. Here's what members get out of it.

See the difference you make

Service through a club turns good intentions into finished projects. You don't just donate hours - you help plan, deliver and see the outcome in real communities.

Grow as a leader

Clubs run on member leadership. Chair a project, take a club or district role, and build practical skills - organizing, public speaking, budgeting, teamwork - with training and mentoring behind you.

Belong to a global network

Membership connects you with Lions in your district and around the world - people who share a service mindset and welcome you at meetings, conventions and projects wherever you go.

Build real friendships

Working side by side on something that matters is one of the fastest ways to form lasting friendships. Many members say the people are why they stay.

Serve on your schedule

A cyber club meets online, so membership fits around work, family and travel. Contribute from wherever you live, and join hands-on projects when you can.

Put your professional skills to work

Whatever you do - teaching, trades, technology, healthcare, business - a club can use it. Your expertise becomes service, and you pick up new skills along the way.

Be part of something bigger

Through Lions Clubs International and its foundation, LCIF, your local effort connects to worldwide programs in vision, hunger, diabetes, disaster relief and more.

Serve with protection

Lions Clubs International carries a worldwide commercial general liability insurance program, and every chartered club and district is covered automatically - no sign-up, no extra cost to you. When the club runs a service project or fundraiser, there's US$1,000,000 of liability coverage behind it, and the club can print a certificate of insurance when a venue or partner asks for one. It's legal liability coverage, not accident insurance, and a few activities (like aircraft or club-owned vehicles) are excluded - but for normal club service, you're protected while you serve.

Bring your family

Lions is a family-friendly organization. Family members can join together - and may qualify for reduced international dues - so service becomes something you share.

Member perks and discounts

Beyond the service itself, the Lions International Member's Benefits Program gives members real savings. Availability varies by country, and most perks extend to friends and family.

Car rental discounts

Around 15% off with Avis and 20% off with Budget, plus member rates with Enterprise/National - in the U.S. and internationally.

Hotel savings

Discounts on thousands of hotels through HotelStorm, and 20% off the best available rate at participating Wyndham hotels.

Hearing care (U.S.)

Through Beltone: a free hearing screening, 15% off hearing aids, and lifetime cleaning and service - for members and their immediate family.

Flowers and gifts

15% off at 1-800-Flowers.com and related brands like Harry & David and Cheryl's Cookies.

Family included

Most of these perks extend to friends and family of Lions, not just the member.

Perks that give back

Using these programs supports Lions Clubs International programming at no extra cost to you.

More you get as a member

Real programs and resources that come with membership - not just good feelings.

Free training and courses

The Lions Learning Center offers free online courses for members - leadership, communication, project management, club operations - you can take anytime, at your own pace.

Leadership institutes

District and international leadership institutes train members for club, district and beyond - structured development that would cost real money in the professional world.

LION Magazine

Members receive LION Magazine, the official publication of Lions Clubs International, with service stories, ideas and resources from clubs around the world.

The international convention

Members can attend the annual Lions International Convention - thousands of Lions from 200+ countries, with member registration rates, seminars and elections.

Grant funding for your projects

Through LCIF, clubs can apply for matching grants and disaster grants that multiply what a local club can fund on its own - your project idea can get real money behind it.

Recognition that follows you

Service milestones are formally recognized - from club awards to the Melvin Jones Fellowship, one of the highest honors in service, named for the Lions founder.

A ready-made volunteer resume

Officer roles, project chairs and district positions are documented, dated leadership experience - concrete lines for a resume, a board application or a bio.

Tools that make serving easy

Members get access to the Lion Portal, marketing templates, service reporting tools and club management resources - the infrastructure is already built for you.

Why pay dues to volunteer?

It's the most common question we hear. Your time is the gift - dues simply keep the organization behind it running.

Dues run the organization

Dues pay for the administration behind your membership - member records, training, leadership development, communications and support from your district and Lions International.

Donations stay for service

Because dues cover operating costs, money the club raises from the public can go to service projects. Gifts to LCIF, the Lions foundation, are separate from dues.

You join a global network

Membership connects you to Lions clubs worldwide, district events, conventions, grants and partnerships your club could not access alone.

Commitment builds strong clubs

Like any membership organization, dues signal a shared commitment and keep the club accountable and sustainable year to year.

Common questions about joining

Straight answers about dues, fees, and next steps.

How much does it cost to join?

The first year is $115: a one-time $35 entrance fee plus $80 annual dues. After that, it's $80 per year.

What do the annual dues cover?

The $80 per year covers everything combined: Lions Clubs International dues, multiple district dues, District 43Y dues, and club dues. There are no separate bills.

Is there a family discount?

Yes. Eligible family members living in the same household pay half-price international dues. The discount applies only to the international portion - multiple district, district, and club dues are unaffected by reduced member rates. The club confirms eligibility.

How do I pay?

Check made out to the club, sent by mail Mail it to: Water By Women, C/O WBW Lions Club, 1902 Campus Place, Suite 11, Louisville, KY 40299.

Why do I pay dues to volunteer?

Your time is the gift - dues simply keep the organization behind it running. They fund the international association's insurance, training, magazine, and support staff, plus district and club operations. None of it goes to salaries for club volunteers.

What is a cyber club?

A cyber club meets online instead of in a local hall. You join meetings from anywhere, collaborate remotely on service projects, and take part in hands-on service where you live. Our mission focus is clean water and women as water leaders.

What happens after I apply?

Your application is stored and automatically shared with the club's leadership, who make all membership decisions. You'll hear back from the club - submitting an application expresses intent and does not guarantee admission.

Do I need to live in Louisville or Kentucky?

No. Because we're a cyber club, members join from anywhere. District 43Y is our home district, but your participation is online.

What will I actually do as a member?

Serve on projects that bring clean water to communities and support women as water leaders, join online meetings, and - if you want - grow into leadership roles with training through the Lions Learning Center and leadership institutes.

Am I covered by insurance when I volunteer?

Lions Clubs International carries commercial general liability insurance that covers legal liability for Lions service projects and activities. It's liability protection for the organization and its members while serving - not personal accident insurance.

Who do I contact with another question?

Use the application form on the join page to reach the club, or ask during an informational video call - no commitment required.
